time flies
"the secret of happiness is freedom. the secret of freedom is courage."
Thucydides quote. (ancient Greek historian & author, 460-404bc)
"every human has four endowments - selfawareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. these give us the ultimate human freedom.. the power to choose, to respond, to change."
Stephen Covey

subjective views of existence
The human brain perceives the external world through the senses, and each individual human is influenced greatly by his or her experiences, leading to subjective views of existence and the passage of time

"courage, my love" -razzle dazzle ros
my end notes for the day:
inevitable amounts of maturity + gaining wisdom = good,
realizations of actual reality + end of adolescent dreams = disastrous.
i've been recollecting throughout my years of life and have been deciphering what i've really wanted this whole time because i can't seem to just pick one. what did the five year old little chi-mee fantasize about in her imagination? what did the nine year old chi-mee want to become when she was in 4th grade? what did the 17 year old want to study next when she graduated high school? etc, etc. It's funny to think about because when I was a kid, i had no idea who and what kind of person I'd become.. I just figured I'd figure it out grow into myself however way it seemed fit. But whenever i would imagine myself in the future and project the older me in the future, I'd see myself as a worker at sea world- and not even as trainer, but the tank cleaner. I ultimately just imagined myself being near and around water/the ocean. I should fulfill my little kids dream. Location, location. I should move to a coast. Muturity is creepin behind my shoulder and its changing me faster than I can keep up.

mind/body dichotomoy. again.
when it comes down to it, i feel like i'm two seperate entities that are cohesively living together... my mind and body.. and well they technically are two different things living/working together, but I mean in a sense that they have their own consciousness? their own thoughts, goals, and desires? I dont know.. its hard to explain. i know it's just an extension of my imagination.. but maybe it's not. Like sometimes I can feel myself looking behind my eyelids.. and when i open my eyes i see the world that i'm living in.. but i'm also living in an entire world inside of my own body! the tiny individual cells are all working along, doing what they're programmed to do to keep me running and alive.. or i think about the kidney sitting there stressing out..
or i think about the person behind these eyeballs... the nerves that are connecting them to my brain, and then even more electrical signals firing and categorizing what i'm perceiving.. and then interpreting it with a mind that has been cultured to certain ideas/morals/themes/events/situations, etc.. but then i have an overall consciousness that is trying to perceive the outside world too. its overwhelming.. too many ways to look at things.. sometimes theres this mind inside of me that is perceiving the world as i live in- in more than one different way... The most intriguing thing about the human mind is that we can project ideas about the future, and imagine and construct it. and that allows us to imagine scenarios before they happen, and we can weigh the pros and cons, and understand and envision what the outcome and possibilities will probably be. It's a strange thought to think about i think. But that's what keeps us going in some way.. because we have imaginations that have no limit, and when we think and imagine about the unknown, it only drives us to create it and to make it happen.. or that's the way i see it.

i like jellyfish.
Waters boil with jellyfish in one of Palau's marine lakes. Surprises hide in each of some 80 such lakes in this Pacific archipelago jellyfish swarm.
The Pacific sea nettle (Chrysaora fuscescens) is one of the world’s largest jellyfish, with an umbrella that typically measures up to 50 centimeters wide and tentacles that stretch up to 2 meters (6.5 ft) in length. It has a moderate to severe sting that can cause welts to form.
The red paper lantern medusa has a transparent, bell-shaped hood measuring about 10 centimeters in diameter and 17 centimeters from top to bottom, with between 14 and 30 tentacles that extend up to 6 times the length of its body. Inside the transparent hood is a deep red colored mantle that can crumple up or expand like a paper lantern, hence the name.Giant jellyfish in Japan:

neurons in my brain are squeezing out dopamine when i love
i love WNYC radiolab. they examine the basic facts of the human condition: where science bumps into culture.
Evolutionary biologist Jerry Coyne got all soft inside when he thought about how the botfly larva in his scalp was eating his tissue and turning it into a new organism.

deliberate attempt to expand consciousness
If evolution is now being carried on through human history, at immense acceleration and through the expansion of consciousness, then we might probably expect that through there would be progress, it would be confined to the very few, would break out at unexpected times and from unsuspected sources.
.. the only way to make deliberate attempt to expand consciousness, is to abandon the old life altogether and to attempt to build up a way of living in which the expansion of consciousness, the deliberate, intentional, experimental attempt to forward psychological evolution becomes the one purpose and aim binding together the social group.
-gerald heard
should never underestimate the power of the mind. this is what's inside our head. ridiculous. all of that brain! tissue, blood, cells.. all composing somehow these thoughts that are in my mind..

thinking
success and happiness comes from working towards an ideal.
instead of competing , all we have to do is create.
we become what we think about.
a man's life is what his thoughts make of it.
conversely, if you think nothing. you become nothing.
natural laws of physics- of course we're limited to these laws as well : for every action, there is an equal amount of reaction.
2. permitting the mind to soar as it was designed to do, rising above narrow-mindedness, prejudices. let the imagination speculate free for all possible solutions.
courage.
action.
ideas are worthless unless theres action.
for a 30 day test, only let your mind think about what you allow it to think about. think of goals to work towards and do them. simple.
all you need is a purpose. wake up and live.
we're on this constant moving ball and while the ground doesnt stop moving, things just keep happening, situations keep occurring, etc, and i just have a major complex with time, etc, etc..

we're in control more than we think. every action has a reaction.
the social consciousness. there should be more attempts to find new ways to approach and implement global norms.. one that will create a common identity within the human race, one in which transcends culture, nationality, religion, etc. one that creates a strong identity on the basic common ground of being a social, conscious, rational being. and then maybe we'll start treating other humans right.
"Society was perishing, man degenerating into anarchy because no one had, or knew how to obtain, convincing insight into an order of things above animal level, an order which would sanction moral conduct." - pain sex and time.

some favorite kurt vonnegut quotes
- If I had a bazooka, I would blow a hole in the wall between us. If either or both of us survived, I'd ask you 'What's a girl like you doing in a place like this?
- Live by the harmless untruths that make you kind and brave and healthy and happy
- A fish pitched up by the angry sea, I gasped on land and I became me.
- New knowledge is the most valuable commodity on earth. The more truth we have to work with, the richer we become.
- The arts are not a way to make a living. They're a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or how badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake
- Our planet's immune system is trying to get rid of people
- Another flaw in the human character is that everybody wants to build and nobody wants to do maintenance.
- I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.
- A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved. –kurt Vonnegut.

my goals for the upcoming year.. seeking higher consciousness
become self-sustained.
minimize habits.
keep the imagination going. remain curious.
investigate love, lust, friendship, and all of the gray spaces in-between.
rationalize. prioritize.
no more blissful ignorance. keep knowledge and truth close.
